ELKINS - Davis Health System has taken steps to make sure help is available to patients when it comes to the Health Insurance Marketplace.
DHS is qualified as a Certified Application Counselor Designated Organization (CDO) and is using qualified staff to assist those who now qualify for coverage.
Even while consumers still may not be able to apply online at the www.healthcare.gov site, patients can get information about their options from DHS Certified Application Counselors.
"People who need help to understand health coverage can sit down with one of our Certified Application Counselors," said Mark Doak, DHS president and CEO. "In addition, they can visit our website which provides links to valuable information and resources about the Insurance Marketplace."
The webpage is available at www.davishealthsystem.org, and web users can click on the Health Reform button.
"Our financial counselors already provide assistance to patients in understanding their eligibility and coverage so we are uniquely positioned to move to this next level and become a CDO organization. It's our responsibility as a regional health system to help people navigate through the process," said Doak.
Certified Application Counselors are located at the following DHS locations: Davis Memorial Hospital, DirectCare of Elkins, DirectCare of Parsons, Buckhannon Medical Care, HomePlus (Elkins location), and Broaddus Hospital in Philippi.
To become a CDO, DHS filed an application with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Once the application was approved, all eligible counselors completed the required CMS-approved training and examination, submitted conflict of interest disclosures, and signed a CAC agreement.
CAC's can help patients understand the full range of options and affordability programs for which they are eligible.
Consumers may also get information and apply on their own for a determination of eligibility to enroll in coverage through the Marketplace at www.healthcare.gov.
