Warren G. Lanham, 92, a resident of South Main Street, Philippi, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Barbour County, a son of the late Luther B. and Edna Jane (Skidmore) Lanham. He was united in marriage Dec. 20, 1947, to Sylvia S. (Swick) Lanham who
Also surviving are one son, Mark G. Lanham and wife, Amy, of Philippi; one sister, Imogene Fleming, of Louisville, Ky.; and two grandsons, Ryan and Drew Lanham of Philippi.
Mr. Lanham was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Warren retired from Bethlehem Mines as a roof bolter, and also from local No. 138 as a construction worker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II between December 1942 and December 1945. Warren enjoyed painting, and was a member of the Lanham Brothers Quartet, and the Lanham Marteney Quartet. He also was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Philippi.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday Nov. 15, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday Nov. 16, 2013, from 8 a.m. to noon at which time he will be moved to the Southern Baptist Church of Philippi to lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. the service hour with Pastor John Dixon officiating.
