Mr. James R. "Ray" Sayres Sr., 91, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 15, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Taylor County, a son of the late Audrey M. and Helen E. Stark Sayres.
On July 5, 1947, in Winchester, Va., he was married to Katherine L. Glaspell Sayres, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are one son, James R. "Jim" Sayres Jr. and wife, Suzan, of Elkins; and one daughter, Linda K. Teter and husband, Ed, of South Charleston. Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, Reitz Sayres; and one sister, Mary Virginia Shields.
Mr. Sayres was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by Pure Food Stores Inc. and the West Virginia Division of Highways. He was a member of Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM and First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday, Nov, 19, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Bridgeport Cemetery at Bridgeport.
