West Virginia Wesleyan College Percussion Ensemble will present its annual fall concert in the Loar Music Hall on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of music director and conductor Robert Baden, the evening will feature various sounds of percussion instruments such as marimbas, vibraphones, xylophone, Glockenspiel and congas, among many more.
The program begins with "Allegro Barbaro" written by Bartok/Steinquest, followed by "Golliwog's Cakewalk" written by Debussy; "Cadence" by Scott Green; "Sinister Minister" by Fleck and Steinquest; "Suite for Small Orchestra" by Bartok and Moss; "Frogs" performed by Holden Akers Toler, a music education major from Beckley; 'Ritmo Suave' written by Lalo Davila; 'Russian Dance' written by Tchaikovsky and Faini; and 'Christmas Time is Here' written by Guaraldi Mendelson.
The ensemble members include Kara Chenoweth of Buckhannon, music education; Luke Finley of Huntington, biology; Kayoko Funada of Saitama, Japan, music performance; Max Garner of Bridgeport, math education; Cameron Gore of Morgantown, music and history; Molly McBride of Mechanicsburg, Va., sociology; Stephanie Noel of Bridgeport, arts administration; Megan Richmond of Beaver, music education; Robin Samuels of Parkersburg, music education; Drew Wade of Reader, secondary education; and Destinee Young of Ridgeley, elementary education.
