OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Alderson Broaddus women's volleyball team defeated Ohio Valley University 3-1 (25-10, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17) Thursday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament held in Jones Gymnasium.
Caitlin Cain, Jayla McCrary and Victoria Morgan each tallied eight kills for the Battlers in the tournament win. McCrary and Kayla Peterson tied for a team-high .417 hitting percentage and Peterson added six kills.
Peterson paced the Battlers with 21 assists and former Philip Barbour High School standout Lauren Rogers recorded 13 helpers.
Both teams tallied four team blocks and Morgan led ABU with four block assists.
Ohio Valley recorded a .191 hitting percentage and committed 13 serving errors in the loss. Imani Ward led the Fighting Scots with 13 kills and Alyx Henry had 10.
AB will face Cedarville at 6 p.m. today in semifinal action. The Yellow Jackets edged the Battlers 3-2 (20-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-23, 13-15) earlier this season at Rex Pyles Arena.
Meanwhile, Ashley MacDonald, Jillian Brown and Morgan were recognized Thursday afternoon between matches for their selection to the second team of the all-G-MAC squad.
Cedarville 3, D&E 0
Cedarville advanced to the G-MAC semifinals with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) victory over Davis & Elkins.
Alexis Mourier, Callie Updike and Elizabeth Estes each notched four kills for the Senators. Haylee Murray chipped in with seven assists, while Alicia Stokes and Natalie Mathieu both tallied six digs.
Thursday's loss brought to a close the career of D&E's Kelsey Richards.
Richards, along with teammate Casey Bannon, was named honorable mention to the All-G-MAC squad.
Cedarville will face AB at 6 p.m. today in the semifinals.
