JUNIOR - A Moundsville man was arrested Friday for the alleged sexual assault of two Barbour County children.
Brian Lee Brookover, 42, was charged with two felony counts of third-degree sexual assault and remained incarcerated at the North Central Regional Jail on a $40,000 cash or surety bond as of presstime.
According to the criminal report on file in the Barbour County Magistrate Clerk's office, on Thursday, Nov. 21, Cpl. S. P. Miller of the Philippi Detachment of the West Virginia State Police received a report from Moundsville Police Department officers regarding the investigation of a Child Protective Services referral involving Brookover. The CPS referral stated that the two alleged victims - ages 4 and 7 - allegedly told CPS workers that Brookover had touched them in the genital area.
Sgt. S. Allman of the Moundsville Police Department told Miller that upon taking Brookover into custody, he allegedly obtained a recorded confession from him. In the recording, Brookover allegedly admitted that he performed a sexual act on the 7-year-old girl and forced her to perform a sexual act on him. Brookover allegedly denied having any sexual contact with the 4-year-old girl.
The sexual contact allegedly took place sometime between Jan. 1 and May 1 and occurred while the family was living in Junior prior to their move to Moatsville in May, the complaint states.
