December 5, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

The Randolph County Community Arts Center is gearing up for Christmas with three holiday-related workshops on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Derrick Helzer will conduct a baking and cookie decorating workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. The class is designed for an adult and child. The cost for an adult and one child is $20.

Akiko Endo will teach children how to make beautiful Origami boxes from noon to 3 p.m. The boxes make perfect Christmas presents. The workshop is open to children in grades K 5, and parents are encouraged to stay with their children to help if necessary. The cost of the workshop is $20.

In the third workshop, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch break,

Elkins artist Maggi Rhudy will teach teens and adults how to create delicate foil Christmas ornaments.

Participants also will have enough materials to complete a set of ornaments at home. The cost is $40.

Rhudy has been making ornaments since she was a child in Germany. "I love making things and always try to learn new techniques. But when it comes to Christmas decorations, I love to fall back on traditions," she said.

Participants can register for the workshops by calling the RCCAC office at 304-637-2355 or by e-mailing amybeth@randolpharts.org. More information is available at www.randolpharts.org or "Like" us on Facebook.

The Randolph County Community Arts Center, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts in Randolph County and the surrounding areas, is at Randolph Avenue and Park Street in Elkins.

The Arts Center's Art Education programs are supported by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, AES Laurel Mountain, LLC., and an anonymous donor.

Funds have been provided in part by the Carol Lambert Judy Scholarship Fund and the El Gran Sabor "El Gran Fest."
