Tucker students learn meaning of Christmas

December 23, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Students at Davis-Thomas Elementary Middle School are learning the true meaning of Christmas this year.

Fifth-grade instructor Elspeth DeLeurere said that students spear-headed donations to help local organizations rather than exchanging gifts among themselves.

This is the third year students have collected monetary donations and products to assist local organizations. Each class chose a charity and collected needed items.

Students created a "giving tree" where donations are placed, reminding all students to remember in their hearts the purpose of the activity.

This year, students in preschool, second grade, third grade, fifth grade and sixth grade chose to help the Tucker County Animal Shelter.

Students in kindergarten and eighth grade chose to help the Tucker County Food Pantry.

Students in first grade picked the Tucker County Humane Society.

Fourth-graders selected St. Jude's and Children's hospital.

Those in the Girls on the Run program ran a clothing drive.
