Roy Alkire

Roy Eugene Alkire, 77, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. He had been in declining health for several years.

He was born Saturday, April 4, 1936, at Moore, a son of the late William "Bill" L. and Lula Margaret Robision Alkire.

On Sept. 28, 1959, he was married to the former Dona Gale Poling, who preceded him in death Nov. 11, 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Eugene Alkire and Gary Wayne Alkire, both of Parsons; one daughter, Barbara Gale Alkire Shahan and husband, Bill, of Pifer Mountain; two brothers, Junior Robision Alkire of Canton, Ohio, and Franklin Daris Alkire and wife, Kay, of Parsons; four grandchildren, Bill II, Tyson, Melissa and Stephanie; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trystan, Hannah, Haley, Hadley, Abigayle and Chase.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, James Alkire, Ray Alkire and Terrance Michael Alkire; three sisters, Ruby Sherry, Donna Lambert and Edna Alkire; and two half sisters, Ethel Howell and Goldie

Clevenger.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He worked in various sawmills, the Chesapeake Paper Board in Maryland, and was a coalminer for the Dobbins Mines in West Virginia.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Monday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Carolyn Shreve and the Rev. James Gilbert will officiate, and interment will follow in Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George.
