Patti A. Hackney, MSN, APRN, CNM, has joined the medical staff at Belington Medical Clinic. She is taking the place of Mary Alice Milnes, NP, who retired in November after 23 years.
Hackney is from Huntington and received her basic nursing education at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned a diploma in nursing in 1978. She began her career as a registered nurse at Cabell-Huntington Hospital and has worked in a variety of clinical settings from California to Florida.
In 1990, she returned to Huntington and attended Marshall University, where she earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1992. She continued with her education, earning a certificate in nurse-midwifery from The Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Ky., in 1995 and a master of science degree in nursing from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1996.
As a nurse-midwife, Hackney's first position was with University Physicians and Surgeons and Marshall University in 1995. In that position, she cared for patients in the office, delivered babies at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, and taught first-year medical residents. She also provided childbirth classes for pregnant couples interested in learning what to expect in the weeks to come.
Five years later, she accepted a position with United Health Professionals, Inc. and has been with them since.
After delivering hundreds of babies, she decided it was time to focus on working with women in the office and transitioned her practice to gynecology.
She enjoys helping women with health promotion and education, bladder problems and menopausal issues as well as routine preventive care and treatment of problems. Care of teens is focused on health promotion and education as well as topics of special interest in adolescent gynecology.
Hackney is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, American Nurses Association, WV Nurses Association, National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health, Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates, and The American Urogynecologic Society.
She has one son, Tristan, who lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.
