Delbert Weaver, mine superintendent of Arch Coal's Sentinel Mine at Philippi, recently presented Belington Middle School with $1,000 for the school's library improvement project.
Company officials participating in the presentation included General Manager Scott Whitaker, Human Resources Manager Josh Carr and Regional President Don Vickers,.
School officials in attendance were Joe Super, superintendent of Barbour County schools; Elaine Benson, director of secondary curriculum and instruction; Michael Ferguson, principal at Belington Middle; Teresa Marsh, middle school literacy coach; and Terri Riffle, Belington Middle School teacher.

The library has needed newer materials for student research and reading. Marsh wrote grants and requested funding for the project, and in response, Arch Coal donated funding for new books.
Belington Middle School is participating in the Silent Sustained Reading Program and a reading initiative to encourage the students to read 500 books as a school for a reward activity.
Ferguson has renovation plans for the library that include new computers and computer tables.
