Homer Erwin Schoonover Sr., 78, a resident of Dailey, departed this life Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2014, in Hospice Care Center Inpatient Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born Saturday, Dec. 7, 1935, a son of the late Oliver "Jonie" Schoonover and Lucrete "Goldie" Taylor Schoonover.
On Feb. 14, 1957, at Elkins, he was married to Elizabeth Bell Isenhart Schoonover, who survives.
He is also survived by one son, Homer "Homie" Erwin Schoonover Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Elkins; one daughter, Wilma Lee Howell and husband, Beechard, of Dailey; two sisters, Retha Schoonover of Ohio, and Nellie Doerr and husband, Richard, of Elkins; five grandchildren, Brock, Ashley, Melissa, Travis and Kelsey; one great-grandson Layne; and one great-granddaughter, Temperance.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Eugene, Ivan and Oliver "June" Schoonover.
He attended the schools of Sugar Grove. He worked for Hedrick's Lumber Co. as a timber cutter, then for Kitzmiller Lumber as a boilermaker. Homer enjoyed playing pool with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed nature.
The family will receive friends at Lohr and Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from noon until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. At 1:30 p.m., a celebration of life will be conducted at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Lowther will officiate, and interment will follow in the Bell Cemetery.
