The Enactus team at West Virginia Wesleyan College is ready to launch a series of events in partnership with the Up to Us campaign, an initiative by former President Bill Clinton, to educate the public about the federal deficit.
The first student-led event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Hyma Auditorium on Wesleyan's campus. This is an informational event about how the federal deficit has and will continue to affect citizens. The event includes lunch.
It will feature three speakers: Zack Klingensmith, Wesleyan instructor of business and economics, to speak about Social Security and healthcare; Lance Koury from Ameriprise Financial in Buckhannon to speak about investing; and Kelly Hughes, assistant professor of business and economics, to speak about the recent housing market crash, making household decisions, the government shutdown, and their relationship with public policy.
As part of the competition, students are judged on how many people they can reach with an educational video. The video is posted on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=WokEvSRnyPQ.
Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
