WISE, Va. - Garrett Grantham came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points to pace Wesleyan to a 67-56 win over Virginia-Wise Saturday in MEC action.
The Bobcats (13-7, 8-4 MEC) led 30-22 at the intermission before the Cavaliers rallied to start the second half and take a 35-34 advantage.
But Wesleyan answered with a 7-1 run to take the lead for good.
Tanner McGrew also chipped in with 12 points off the bench, while Taylor Price and Alexsandar Djordjevic had 10 each.
Javon Moore led U.Va.-Wise with 20 points.
Wesleyan will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Concord for another league contest.
U.Va. Wise 58
WISE, Va. - U.Va.-Wise erupted for 41 second-half points to get past Wesleyan Saturday in MEC play.
The Bobcats held a 21-17 advantage at halftime before being outscored 41-29 in the second session.
Courtney Small had 13 points and Brittany Williams 10 for Wesleyan.
Reynesha Archer tallied 13 points for the Cavaliers.
Wesleyan will visit Concord at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in MEC play.
D&E teams fall
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Davis & Elkins College swim teams fell to Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon.
The SU men claimed a slim 135-126 victory, while the Raider women picked up a decisive 152-67 decision.
Colten Allen secured the first win of the day for the Senators in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.47). Sam McDaniels (1:01.51) and Luke Carpenter (1:03.15) finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
Ty Montemoino took the top spot in both the 50 (22.65) and 100 (50.10) freestyle, while Nick Hiatt out touched the competition in the 200 backstroke (2:06.19).
McDaniels (2:17.17) and Ryan O'Connell (2:22.15) took the top two spots in the 200 breaststroke. Montemoino, McDaniels, Allen and Chris Swank combined for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.88).
Autumn Wunderlich registered a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:13.49) for the D&E?women. Chelsea Faris (5:48.31) and Mellissa Pusanik (7:00.38) wound up with a one-two finish in the 500 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay team of Wunderlich, Faris, Kendal Williams and Brooke Bielecki also earned a first-place finish (1:48.09).
D&E will close out the regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday at home for Senior Day against West Virginia Tech.
