ELKINS - A rambunctious senior night crowd couldn't help the Elkins Tigers muster enough momentum to defeat Lewis County Monday evening. The Minutemen beat Elkins, 62-55, in Big 10 Conference action.
"Both teams had to grind it out tonight," LCHS coach Charles Simms said. "We got into foul trouble early and (Johnnie) Riley fouled out. We got great bench support. Everybody stepped up when we needed them and that's what got us the win."
Elkins got in front early with an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Lewis County heated up in the second stanza to take a 30-27 advantage at halftime.

"It was a tough one," EHS coach John Lawson said. "It could have gone either way. Probably what hurt the most was the little run in the second period when (Johnnie) Riley was on the bench and we didn't take advantage of it. We still did a good job defensively. We're right there, we just got to get over the hump. We've got to find a way to win these close ones."
