Mr. Richard Lee Ryder, 57, a resident of the Weaver Community near Junior, departed this life Friday, Feb. 21 2014, in the Emergency Dept. of the Davis Medical Center at Elkins. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Feb. 7, 1957, at Warren, Ohio, a son of Philip Washington Rider and Emma Pearl (Hill) Rider, who survive at Weaver.
He is survived by one brother, Pastor Philip Lynn Ryder, and wife, Dianna, of Elkins; three sisters, Phyllis Sue Collett and husband, Dennis, of Junior, Teresa Newlon and husband, Bobby, of Dartmoor, Melissa Rider-Wilfong and husband, Terry, of Eleanor.
Also surviving are three nephews, Ryan Mitchel, Philip and Jonah Wilfong; nine nieces, Angie Daniels, Susanne Donegia, Rachel Watson, Tiffany Witek, Kala Mitchell, Sabrina Collett, Amanda Newlon, Jennifer Newlon and Melissa Newlon; and his former wife, Ann McElwain.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Stanley Ray Rider.
Mr. Ryder attended the schools of Barbour County and was formerly employed at Elkins Industries. He enjoyed walking his canine companion, hiking in the woods, being outdoors, and listening to music.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Then at 7 p.m. today. there will be a funeral service conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II officiating. At the request of the deceased, he will be cremated and his cremains interred in The Knights of Pythias Cemetery near Junior at a later date.
