ELKINS - The Davis House has rung in the New Year with its first donation. Bowden Family Worship Center Missions Director Bruce Riffle presented Dan Bucher, special projects coordinator for the Davis Health System Foundation, with a monetary gift from the congregation.
"A number of the congregation and their family members have experienced cancer, so helping to provide lodging for cancer patients was an immediate and natural response from our members," Riffle said.
During the initial fundraising campaign for the Davis House, parishioners were touched by the vision and purpose of the project. Now, having witnessed the comfort the house is actually providing patients and their families, the Center has made another significant donation to help with the ongoing operational expenses of the Davis House.
Bowden Family Worship Center pledges additional support of the Davis House recently when Mission’s Director Bruce Riffle presented a $1,000 check to Davis Health System Foundation representatives Jennie Raines and Dan Bucher. The Davis House provides free respite for Davis Medical Center cancer patients and their families.
"Those who use the Davis House continually respond with sincere thanksgiving for the individuals and organizations that help make this valuable service available," Bucher said. "Especially during this time of year when travel is difficult because of the weather, we are reminded of the generosity of so many who help ease the stress associated with undergoing cancer treatment."
The Bowden Family Worship Center actively supports programs in Ecuador, Haiti, Romania and Nicaragua.
"Missions also means making a difference in our community," Riffle said. "Ongoing support of the Davis House, Catholic Charities West Virginia Food Bank, Women's Aid in Crisis, the Homeless Shelter and the Children's Home are examples of our church's efforts to bring help and hope to our community."
The Davis House provides free respite for cancer patients and their families while undergoing cancer treatment at the Davis Medical Center Cancer Care Center. Six efficiency suites which include private bath and kitchenettes are available.
