Currently on tour throughout the nation promoting their new No. 1 Billboard World Album "The Boathouse," Gaelic Storm incorporates into their sound a rock sensibility that affords them rare crossover appeal.
Gaelic Storm will perform at Davis & Elkins College on Friday.
"The Boathouse," a seafaring album of traditional songs of the ocean, was recorded in one week in a converted boathouse on the Chesapeake Bay.
It brings 12 tales of plight and plunder, whiskey-drenched pirates and flying cannon balls. It is the sixth album released on the band's own label, Lost Again Records, and the first from "Small Batch Sessions," a new series that offers music only on the band's website and at their live shows.
With catalog sales of more than 1 million, Gaelic Storm now has four consecutive albums to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart: 2008's "What's the Rumpus?," 2010's "Cabbage," which remained parked in the top slot for three consecutive weeks, 2012's "Chicken Boxer," and 2013's "The Boathouse."
Gaelic Storm became a much-sought after band following its appearance in the film "Titanic" and performing "An Irish Party in Third Class" on the film's soundtrack. In recent years, Gaelic Storm has performed on the same bill with acts ranging from Zac Brown Band and the Goo Goo Dolls to Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett. This month, they help celebrate the wearing of the green for St. Patrick's Day Weekend in Milwaukee, Wisc., and Mill City Nights St. Patrick's Day in Minneapolis, Minn., before their performance at Davis & Elkins.
