Lawrence Lewis Swick, 83, of Philippi, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Broaddus Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 22, 1930, at Philippi, a son of the late Elden Lee Swick and Virgie Bell (Fridley) Swick.
On April 23, 1955, he married the former Pauline Marie Haller, who preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Buffy Bonifield and husband, Pat, of Bridgeport, Mary Elsey and husband, Bruce, Inwood; five sons, David Swick, Rev. Howard Swick and wife, Benita, Carl Swick and wife, Linda, all of Philippi, Joseph Swick and companion, Roberta, of Lost Creek, Samuel Swick and wife, Tammy, of Clarksburg; three sisters, Betty Jean Swiger, of Grafton, Martha McLean, of Philippi, and Rosa Lee Stemple; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Daniel William Swick and Lawrence Lee Swick; and by one brother, John Lee Swick.
Mr. Swick was a retired coal miner and was Pentecostal by faith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Howard Swick will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, on Wednesday.
