Local citizens deserve a big pat on the back for helping the?United Way of Randolph County reach its annual fundraising goal.
This year, the organization raised more than $170,000 that will assist 27 local non-profit agencies.
Campaign Chair Gary Clay announced Friday that a donation of $35 helped the United Way chapter surpass its goal.
That $35 donation shows that every monetary gift - no matter its size - makes a difference when considering the big picture.
"In the end, it wasn't the big donors who got us to goal - it was a combination of those giving $25, $50 or $100," Clay said. "Those helped us reach the goal, and it was a total community participation."
All those that made gifts this year deserve praise for their selfless giving and support of others in need.
In today's shaky economy, every dollar counts in each and every household throughout our county. That's why it is so impressive that so many members of our community banded together to assist the United Way and, in turn, help so many less fortunate through the benefiting agencies.
Without the leadership of the United Way - Executive Director JoBeth Agnor and Clay - this year's campaign would not have been as success. Our community is fortunate to have such dedicated leaders to help make this area a better place to live.
The 27 benefiting United Way of Randolph County agencies are the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Charities (Food Bank), Energy Express (West Virginia University Extension Office), Family Resource Network, Foster Grandparent Program, Girl Scouts Black Diamond Council, Helping Hand Clearinghouse, Elkins/Randolph County Library, Helvetia Library, Valley Head Library, Pioneer Memorial Library, Tygart Valley Library, Literacy Volunteers of West Virginia, Meals on Wheels, NCCA Homeless Shelter, Randolph County Cancer Support Group, Randolph County Children's Advocacy Center, Randolph County Training & Referral, Randolph County Emergency Squad, Randolph County Humane Society, Randolph County Senior Center, Randolph County Sheltered Workshop, Senior Companion Program, Women's Aid in Crisis, Elkins/Randolph County YMCA and Youth Health Service.
