Schools were closed on Tuesday for voting in the primary election. I'm sure that students and teachers alike enjoyed the break. Congratulations to the winners in each category.
Congratulations also go out to Louise Cross from Barbour County. Her daughter entered a picture of Louise and her nine children into a Mother's Day contest and she was the winner.
I had the privilege of attending Philip Barbour's prom safety drill last week. Hat's off to all responders who took the time to put on this demonstration. They put forth a lot of time and effort because they care about
Come out to the Philippi Public Library today from 11 a.m. to noon for a chance to meet local artists Millie and Gary Goetze as they present the art of loom weaving.
A local soldier will be honored today at 1 p.m. A bridge- naming ceremony will take place to honor Sgt. John Andrew Charnoplosky. The public is invited to attend.
Also today, the Diecast Dragsters will be having their race day at 1 p.m. at the Philippi City Building. Come out for a good time of "drags - not drugs."
When you are finished at the race, come out to the Union Community Building for a country music sing. Music begins at 2 p.m., and a live auction at 5 p.m. Bring a can of food and receive free coffee. Proceeds benefit Relay For Life.
Again, back at Philippi Library, children's story hour will take place on Wednesday and also May 28 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Bring your child out to enjoy "Bee A Good Reader" and "Lady Bug, Lady Bug."
Memorial Day is celebrated on May 26 this year. Although our fallen heroes are in our hearts everyday, this is a day set aside to remember and honor them for their service.
The annual Blue & Gray reunion is set to take place May 29-June 1 in downtown Philippi. Travel back in time to the year 1861 as the re-enactment of the first land battle of the Civil War will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. There will be living history stations set up throughout town, as well as vendors, food, crafts and much more.
