HUTTONSVILLE - Tygarts Valley and Notre Dame will try for the third time today to play their Class A, Region II semifinal softball game.
The teams were originally scheduled to play Thursday but that contest was rained out, along with Friday's action.
Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the Huttonsville fields.
The Bulldogs are expected to start senior Charity Lower on the mound. She notched six wins on the season and also is one of the team's top hitters.
Other offensive weapons include seniors Danielle Johnson and Paige Pritt, along with junior MaKayla Harris and sophomore Lacey Conrad.
The winner of today's game will host Moorefield Thursday in regional final play. The Yellow Jackets moved on with a 9-1 win over Pendleton County on?Friday.
Petersburg, meanwhile, advanced to the Class AA, Region II championship by defeating Keyser, 12-4, on Saturday. Brittani Bible had two homers and knocked in five runs to lead the Vikings (22-5), who will host either Liberty or Lincoln on Thursday in the finals.
The state tournament will be held May 28-29 at Jackson Park in Vienna.
In baseball sectional action, a pair of games are on the card for today.
Philip Barbour is slated to host Liberty in Class AA, Region II, Section 3 action. The Colts need to wins over the Mountaineers to claim the sectional crown.
In the Class A, Region II, Section 2 tournament, Tygarts Valley will host Tucker County at 6 p.m. today. The Mountains Lions stayed alive in the tournament by defeating Union, 10-6, on Saturday and would need to defeat the Bulldogs twice to win the sectional.
Petersburg captured the Class AA,?Region II, Section 2 title by defeating Berkeley Springs, 5-0, on Saturday.
Brian George tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Vikings (15-7), who will face either Frankfort or Keyser in regional semifinal play.
