Billy Ray Murphy, 60, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at his home. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
He was born Tuesday, March 30, 1954, at Elkins, a son of the late Howard Denneson and Mary Jane McNeil Murphy. He was twice married, first to Carol Moore, who preceded him in death; and second to Stephanie Seabolt, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Billy Ray Murphy Jr.; two brothers; Howard Denneson Murphy Jr.; and David McNeil Murphy, both of Montrose; and two sisters, Dicy Linda Likens, Montrose; and Brenda Grace House and husband, Mike, Kerens.
Preceding him in death is one sister, Dianna Mae Shreve.
He attended the two-room school at Montrose and was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he became disabled. He was an employee of the former Veterans Cab Co., Channell Tire Co., and Bob Irvin Auto, all of Elkins. He was an avid outdoorsman, tradesman, knife collector and enjoyed animals.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. R. Michael House and the Rev. Michael Paul House will officiate and interment will follow at the Leading Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery at Montrose.
