Richard Henry Pingley Jr., 81, of Madison Heights, Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in Lynchburg General
He was the husband of the late Eleanor Jane Pingley.
Born March 23, 1933, in Huttonsville, he was the son of the late Richard Henry Pingley Sr. and Georgia Swecker Pingley.
Richard served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a branch manager for the Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his yard and in his garden. He also enjoyed going back to West Virginia to the cabin. He never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Henry Pingley III; a son-in-law, Randy Coates; and a sister, Deloris Whittley.
He is survived by his children, Dena R. Gardner and husband, Yogi, of Winchester, Va., Tammy P. Coates of Madison Heights, Va., and Greg Pingley and wife, Beth, of Madison Heights, Va.; his five grandchildren, Dustin Gardner, Katalin G. Swanson and husband, Dan, Nicholle Coates, Jared Pingley and Logan Pingley; his three sisters, Eula Robbins, Carolyn Cunningham and husband, Monte, and Gwen Taylor; and numerous other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, June 7, at 1 p.m. in the Brick Church Cemetery in Randolph County, with Pastor Steve Tyree officiating. For family and friends wishing to view Mr. Pingley, you may do so prior to the service until 12:45 p.m.
