CHARLESTON - Tyler Skidmore's strong effort on the mound, along with good defense, helped Bridgeport advance to the Class AA championship game with a 3-1 win over Chapmanville Friday at Appalachian Park.
Skidmore went the distance, allowing six hits and fanning eight.
He was backed by his defense, as the Indians' A.C. Caldera threw out a runner at the plate and Anthony Bonamico made a diving catch to help avert a Tiger rally in the seventh.
Chapmanville, which ended the season 29-7, had a runner at first in the final inning before Bonamico's key catch led to the second out. Skidmore then fanned the final batter to end the game.
The Indians built a 2-0 lead, taking advantage of a throwing error to plate a run in the third, while a passed ball allowed Zach Hineman, who had tripled, to race home in the fifth.
Brock Dalton had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for the Tigers.
