Mrs. Elaine R. Markley, 80, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014 at her home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1933, at Becky's Creek, a daughter of the late Robert Sherman and Ota Marple Bell.
On Jan. 29, 1955, at Huttonsville, she married Carson Ward Markley, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert W. Markley and wife, Elizabeth, of Elkins and Marshall W. Markley and wife, Sarah, of Huttonsville; and one daughter, Julie J. Markley-Kalar and husband, Kevin, of Huttonsville. Four grandchildren, Charles, John and Katherine Markley of Elkins and Abbie Markley of Huttonsville also survive.
Mrs. Markley was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1951 and a 1955 graduate of Glenville State College with a Bachelor of Arts in education. She was a former teacher at both Pickens and Tygart Valley High School. She was a member of Randolph County Teacher's Association, West Virginia Education Association, Homemaker's Club, Elkins Women's Club and was a board member of Russell Memorial Public Library. She was active in literacy projects, having judged the Randolph County Speaking, Social Studies and Science Fairs in local schools and volunteered with the Randolph County 4-H projects.
Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m.. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. JoAnne Glaser officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
