Leota Virginia Hornbeck, 92, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at her residence.
She was born May 15, 1922, at Elkwater, a daughter of the late Norvel Osgrow Channell and Cynthia Elizabeth Harris
On July 19, 1946, in Elkins, she was married to Dellot Earl Hornbeck, who preceded her in death Jan. 31, 2001.
She is survived by two sons, David Earl Hornbeck of Austell, Ga., and Terry Lynn Hornbeck of Fairmont; and one daughter, Shirlee Dianne Coffman of Montrose. Also surviving are six sisters, Eva Arlene Swecker of Flemington, Lena Elizabeth Duckworth of Fairmont, Doris Rosalie Hogan of Winchester, Va., Betty Mae Dickinson of Farmington Hills, Mich., Eulah Jane Yokum of Valley Bend and Patricia Ann Kyle of Huttonsville; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Norvel Oland Channell; one sister, Linda Rae Chauvront; and one grandson, Bradley Stephen Hornbeck.
Mrs. Hornbeck was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School. She was a charter member of the former Memorial General Hospital Auxiliary and was a nurse's aide. She was a member of Valley Bend United Methodist Church and the church choir for many years. She served as church secretary for 17 years.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Poling officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
