The Heavner Grove CEOS Club met at noon June 11 at the Mt Rupert UMC Eldon Tenney Fellowship Hall. Mary Dagley was the hostess for the luncheon. After lunch Co-President Elaine Wright called the meeting to order. The group said the pledge of allegiance to the American flag.
Devotions, led by Hilda Ketterman, were titled "Overflowing Power." The scripture read was from Acts 2:1-21 about the very first Pentecost, and a reading which said that if God calls you to be bold you will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to complete your task. Ketterman closed with a prayer.
Minutes were distributed, read and approved. Treasurer Eloise Tenney gave the financial report.
Business discussed included the following:
- Shirley Warner and Joyce Zirkle displayed Quilts at the Strawberry Festival Quilt Show. Joyce Zirkle's Lany Baby Quilt took 3rd place.
- Shirley Warner shared several stars she had found in preparation for the Miller's Pharmacy Window to be decorated Aug. 29 for a week. The Theme is "A Star Attraction." The group discussed many ideas for that display.
- Learn and return for September, October and November will be at 7 pm, Aug.11 at Chapel Hill UMC.
- County Council Meeting will be July 10.
Health motivator Sharon Carr explained health benefits of the herb Rosemary. She will distributed recipes using Rosemary at the next meeting. A romantic song was played while club members swayed and danced to the music for exercise.
The lesson "West Virginia Fairs and Festivals" was presented by Sharon Carr, who began by having members name as many fairs and festivals as they could, then name the ones they had attended and how they had participated. Many had prepared food and crafts, quilts, etc. for different events. Information in the lesson and a list of events for the rest of 2014 were distributed and discussed.
Cards were sent to several club and community people with illness and injuries.
Winnie Hoover quizzed members with a variety of current event questions and surprisingly, we knew most of the answers.
Hostess Mary Dagley supplied a door prize which was won by Anna Jean Kelly.
At the July 9 meeting the club will take a summer break from business and lessons. We will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Mt Rupert UMC.
Each person is to bring finger foods and snacks, plus small items for prizes. Members will play bingo, have some fun, food and fellowship.
