D&E officials announced Wednesday the Mingo Dining Room in Graceland Inn and Byrd Conference Center will not reopen until further notice. D&E College President Michael Mihalyo said although the restaurant is closed, some services will continue.
"Following review of Graceland's operating results for fiscal year 2014 that ended on June 30, we have decided to close the Mingo Dining Room for the foreseeable future effective July 1," Mihalyo said in a press release Wednesday. "Overnight guest accommodations in the Graceland Inn and Byrd Conference Center with complimentary continental breakfast will continue as in the past.
"Turning a profit in Graceland's dining operation has been a challenge for many years. Previous administrations have closed it on occasion, most recently for several weeks in May 2011."
Restoration on Graceland Inn started in the 1990s, and the Mingo Dining Room served its first guests in 1996. A new menu was added to the restaurant in July 2009, and again in
Mihalyo said he hopes the closure is only temporary.
"We are exploring several possible options for the future. Meantime, we will place emphasis on enhancing the profitability of overnight accommodations and catering of weddings and other special events," he said.
