Hello from Barbour County, home of the brand new Sheetz!
The Sheetz gas station/convenience store in Philippi has been closed for several months, allowing the work crew to come in and tear down the old building, starting completely fresh to build a new structure.
Many folks felt lost without their daily cup of coffee, and I know that it's a relief to many to have their daily routine back to normal.
Thanks to all those in the area who stepped up to the plate to fill in the gap while the work was being completed.
Wow, did you notice the storm that came through the area earlier this week? That was a silly question. How could you have missed it? It didn't last long, but was strong enough to knock down many trees, limbs and branches and leave more than 2,000 customers in the dark. We had a tree to come down on our garage, but thankfully, everything stayed intact (except for the tree).
There will be a food handlers class on Tuesday at the Garden Market in Philippi. Registration begins at 6 p.m., with the class starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Cancer Support Group will meet at the Medallion Restaurant at 11 a.m. Friday for their monthly meeting. All cancer survivors, caregivers, and family members are welcome to attend. For more information, call Deanna at (304) 457-2684.
Also on Friday, Belington Clinic is having a 31 Bingo to benefit Relay for Life. This will be held at the Belington Fire Department at 7 p.m. For more information, you can call the clinic at (304) 823-2800.
Cornerstone Church in Belington Industrial Park would like to invite kids to come out for their "Glow At Cornerstone" activity. This will be held from 5-8 p.m. July 20. Children in grades K-8 are welcome to join in all the fun, games, crafts, Bible lessons and learning how to "glow" with Christ.
Relay for Life will be having its annual event at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Barbour County Fairgrounds.
The Junior Volunteer Fire Department is having its second annual Ride 2 Dive ATV/UTV Benefit beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 3. This is to help better equip their scuba dive team. A meal will be offered after the ride. Help support a great group of men and women who are always there to help those in need.
Looking ahead, the Barbour County Fair is coming up next month! School will also be starting in a month. Where has the summer gone?
