ELKINS - With less than a week remaining in the regular season, Elkins Post 29's offense and pitching appear to be clicking at the right time.
That was evident Wednesday night at Robin Harvey Memorial Field, as Post 29 cruised past Potomac Valley 12-2 in a game halted in the eighth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Colby Gainer was the standout on this cool evening for Elkins, allowing just one run on five hits and fanning five in six innings on the mound, while collecting six RBIs at the dish.

Elkins Post 29’s P.J. Lanham scampers home on an RBI infield single from teammate Daniel Crawford during a contest against Potomac Valley on Wednesday night.
"Colby had a very solid outing with his pitching," Post 29 manager Chris George said. "He worked on some things mechanically and had better life and command with his pitches."
Post 64/78 dented the scoreboard first on Garrett Keller's solo homer in the second inning.
Elkins answered with three runs in the third, as P.J. Lanham scored on Daniel Crawford's bunt single, Gainer tallied an infield single to plate Crawford all the way from second and Doug Smith cracked an RBI single to score Gainer.
Jake Wyatt tripled and scored on Tyler Shreve's double to make it 4-1 in fourth.
After Ryan Hedrick's infield single chased home Keaton Funk in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-2, Post 29 blew the game open in the home-half of the frame on Gainer's bases-loaded double.
The game ended an inning later, when Al Johnson and Gainer collected two-run doubles and Smith added an RBI single..
Hedrick was saddled with the loss for Post 64/78, allowing seven runs on nine hits in six innings. He fanned two and issued three free passes.
Smith added three hits, Johnson a pair of safeties and Shreve two doubles for Elkins.
"We hit the ball hard the entire game," George said. "But it was right at them, and to their credit, they made the plays.
Post 29 improved to 26-8 with the victory and will scrimmage the Elkins Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars at 6 p.m. today at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Elkins will then host South Charleston at 5:30 p.m. Friday before playing games at Moundsville and Wheeling on Saturday.
