Christopher Lee VanPelt, 35, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, in Davis Medical Center in Elkins. He had been in his usual health, and death was unexpected.
He was born Saturday, March 10, 1979, in Elkins, a son of the late Carl Patrick Johnson and Linda Sue VanPelt Robey, who survives in Elkins.
Also left to cherish Chris' memory are his wife, Barbara "BJ" VanPelt; four children, Marcus and Essence Kisner and Nevaeh and Niesha VanPelt, all of Elkins; two brothers, Carl Johnson and wife, Kyongcha, of California, and Ricky Johnson of Georgia; two sisters, Terri Blashaw and husband, Bill, of Pennsylvania, and Amanda Coberley of Charleston; his second mom, Jeannie Miller; grandmother, Neva Shuman; special aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Chris in death, besides his father, was his grandfather, Burns VanPelt.
Chris attended the schools of Randolph County and was an Elkins High School graduate. He was employed as a coal miner with Patriot Coal. Chris was a huge West Virginia University fan. He loved riding his Suzuki Katana, was an amazing pool shark and enjoyed playing corn hole. Chris thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. If Chris was around, a party was sure to follow. Chris was Baptist by faith and attended Shiloh Baptist Church.
At the request of the family, cremation was honored. Visitation will be conducted at the Randolph Funeral Home Monday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate.
