Lady Tiger swimmers take meet; EMS girls fall
The Elkins High School girls and Notre Dame boys captured first place in a four-team dual meet Tuesday at Davis &?Elkins College.
The Lady Tigers defeated Robert C. Byrd, Doddridge County and Notre Dame.
Delaney Johnson and Samantha Hall each had two first-place finishes to lead Elkins. Johnson, a senior, captured the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.30) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.52). Hall, a sophomore, won the 100 breaststroke (1:21.69) and the 50 freestyle (26.14).
The Lady Tigers also won the 200 freestyle relay (Tenny DeMarco, Lauren Cain, Kayla Gainer, Kaylynne Goins) in a time of 1:58.75, the 200 medley relay (Hall, DeMarco, Johnson, Gainer), 2:00.40; and the 400 freestyle relay (Johnson, Skout Barger, Gainer, Hall), 4:09.39.
The EHS finished second behind the Irish and were led by freshman Brendan Cain, who captured the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:41.40.
Elkins will return to action at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Bridgeport and Lincoln at the Clarksburg YMCA.
Middle school girls basketball
B-U sweeps EMS
The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School girls basketball team swept a pair of games from Elkins on Tuesday.
The Lady Bucs won the varsity contest 55-23.
Hanna McClura had nine points, while Makayla Reynolds and Chelsea Queen had eight points each for Buckhannon-Upshur.
Christine Zurbuch added eight points, seven rebounds, two steals, two blocks and three assists for the Lady Hornets.
Buckhannon-Upshur won the junior varsity contest, 32-26.
Taylor Philips had nine points, while Taylor Maynard and Susan Riggleman had six points each for the Lady Hornets.
Maynard added 12 rebounds, while Riggleman had eight rebounds for Elkins.
Buckhannon-Upshur will travel to Lumberport at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Elkins will visit Taylor County at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Middle school boys
Green Bank splits tilts
GREEN?BANK – The Green Bank Middle School varsity team claimed a 54-50 win over Petersburg on Tuesday.
Brady Jones scored 21 points, while Drake Warder and Jarret Taylor added 10 each.
Petersburg won the junior varsity contest, 50-22.
Brandal Carr and Kyle Cohenour each had five points in a losing effort for Green Bank.
