Senior cruises by EHS

Kaden Whaley led three teammates in double figures as Fairmont Senior cruised past Elkins 56-24 Wednesday night in a Big 10 Conference encounter at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Polar Bears led 19-5 after one quarter and the advantage grew to 28-8 in the second quarter on Emily Stoller’s jumper with 2:00 left in the first half.

The Lady Tigers came no closer the remainder of the game, trailing 31-8 at intermission and 43-15 after three quarters.

Kelsey Morrone added 14 points and Stoller 12 for Fairmont Senior (8-3, 6-2 Big 10).

Logan Dudley scored six points and grabbed five rebounds for Elkins. Charlie George dished out three assists and Colleen Webley had four steals.

Elkins (2-6, 3-7) will travel to East Fairmont on Friday for a league game.

Tucker County 60, Pendleton 26

FRANKLIN – Class AA, No. 9 Tucker County claimed a 60-26 win over Pendleton County Wednesday night in Potomac Valley Conference play.

Amber Evans had 12 points and 10 steals to pace the Lady Mountain Lions (7-4). Stephanie Betler chipped in 11 points and five assists, Olivia Miller 11 rebounds and Savannah Ambrose seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

“This was a great overall team win,” Tucker County coach Jim Ambrose said. “We played well in the first quarter and kept it going the entire game.”

Nicole Hedrick and Danielle Gray had five points each for the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Mountain Lions will host Notre Dame at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Middle School

Philippi sweeps TV girls

PHILIPPI – Philippi Middle School swept Tygarts Valley Wednesday in girls basketball action.

Philippi won the varsity contest 37-21 as Chelsea Mayle fired in 23 points and Shayna Rexrode added 10.

Kaleah Pritt had nine and Abby Harris eight for the Bulldogs.

Sarah Jones scored 10 points and Adriana Christopher nine in Philippi’s 20-0 victory in the junior varsity contest.

Tygarts Valley will travel to Tucker County at 5:45 p.m. today.

TV boys best Philippi

MILL?CREEK – Tygarts Valley defeated Philippi Wednesday night in middle school boys basketball.

Tygarts Valley (6-2) took the varsity game 61-25 as Caleb Riggleman scored 14 points, Jace Stanley 12 and Zac McCauley 10.

Austin Upton scored eight and Zac Short and Cody Freeman seven each for Philippi.

Jake Tackett bucketed 14 points and Austin Lanham 10 to lead Tygarts Valley (3-4) to a 40-26 win in the junior varsity contest.

Joseph Mayle had five points and Trenten Haddix four for Philippi.

Tygarts Valley will host Tucker Valley at 6 p.m. today.

Green Bank boys roll

GREEN?BANK – Green Bank claimed a 63-21 win over Highland County (Va.) Wednesday in middle school varsity action.

Jarret Taylor tossed in 21 points, while Darryl Foster added 12 and Danny Kimble eight for Green Bank.

Avery Smith scored 12 and Michael Lotts six for Highland County.

Green Bank will host Marlinton on Monday.
