Snyder’s 26 points sink TVHS
MOOREFIELD – Adam Snyder connected on five three-pointers and finished with game-high 26 points to lead Moorefield past Tygarts Valley 70-57 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.
Snyder also had five assists and four steals for the Yellow Jackets (5-5), who led 43-18 at halftime and 58-33 after three quarters of play.
Garrett Keller followed with 15 points, while Lance Taylor chipped in with 10 points for Moorefield.
“This was a good win for us,” Moorefield coach Pat MacGregor said. “This is one of best starts we’ve had in a long time shooting the ball, Snyder really played well for us this evening.”
Brandon Pritt had 20 points, while Adam Cassell and Ben Sycafoose had 11 points each for the Bulldogs (7-2, 3-2 PVC), who dropped their second straight game. Derrick Villarico added 12 rebounds.
“We were not effective in the first half at all,” Tygarts Valley coach Tom Wamsley said. “I thought Adam Cassell and Derrick Villarico really played well for us, though.”
Tygarts Valley will host Cameron at 7:30 p.m. Friday in opening round action of the WVHIT.
Moorefield will visit Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Union 60, Harman 54
MT. STORM – Travis Murphy had 21 points to lead Union past Harman 60-54 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference play.
Tyler Seabolt followed with 14 points for the Tigers.
Alex Armentrout had 19 points, while Will Semmelman followed with 13 points for the Panthers. Casey Elza added 10.
Harman will entertain Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a PVC contest.
Pendleton 55, East Hardy 51
BAKER – Evan Arrington had a game-high 26 points to lead Pendleton County past East Hardy 55-51 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.
Logan Raines followed with 15 points for the Wildcats (4-5), who led 18-13 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters of play.
Levi Beck finished with 17 points, while Korey Foltz had 13 points for the Cougars.
“This was a big win for us tonight,” Pendleton County coach Ryan Lambert said. “It’s a step in the right direction. we have been close all season and try to get that key win and tonight we got that.”
East Hardy will host South Harrison at 7:30 p.m. Friday in WVHIT first-round action.
Pendleton County will visit Moorefield at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a PVC tilt.
EHS defeats Preston
KINGWOOD – The Elkins HIgh School boys and girls swim team defeated Preston Tuesday in a dual-meet at Camp Dawson.
The Lady Tigers’ first-place finishers included Tayler Lee (200-yard freestyle, 2:31.15) and (500 freestyle, 6:54.84), Delaney Johnson (50 freestyle, 25.73), Samantha Hall (100 freestyle, 1:00.76), Abby Fincham (100 breaststroke, 1:35.75) and Lauren Cain (100 backstroke,1:17.62).
The Lady Tigers won three relay events – the 200 medley (Tenny DeMarco, Kayla Gainer, Hall and Johnson), the 200 freestyle (Gainer, DeMarco, Hall and Johnson) and the 400 freestyle (Amy Fincham, Abby Fincham, Cain and Lee).
EHS?boys first-place performers were Tyler Kenney (50 freestyle, 27.20) and 100 freestyle, 1:00.53), Robert Hall (200 freestyle, 2:09.04) and 100 breaststroke, 1:16.86) and Brendan Cain (500 freestyle, 6:45.22.).
Elkins also placed first in the 200 medley relay (Cain, Hall, Kenney and Mason Ariola) and the 200 freestyle (Ariola, Cain, Hall and Kenney).
Elkins will host North Marion and Philip Barbour at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
