Webster holds off B-U girls
UPPER?GLADE?- Webster County’s girls produced a second-half comeback Friday night, stopping Buckhannon-Upshur’s attempt to win a second consecutive game with a 40-37 victory.
The Lady Bucs carried their momentum from Wednesday night’s victory over East Fairmont into the first half, taking an 11-5 lead after one quarter and extending that lead to 24-17 at the half.
Webster responded to take a 31-28 lead after three quarters and held on late for the victory.
The game was tied 37-37 in the final minute, but the Lady Highlanders scored three late points for the final tally. B-U had one final attempt to force overtime but missed a trey at the end.
Megan Wilfong led the Lady Bucs with 13 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Kelsey Hinzman with eight points and seven rebounds. Jess Feronti scored eight points and collected four steals.
B-U will return to action next Friday at home against North Marion.
Pocahontas 54, Moorefield 28
MOOREFIELD – Tristin Day finished with a game-high 19 points to lead Pocahontas County past Moorefield 54-28 Friday in Potomac Valley Conference action.
Marka Kane followed with 10 points. while Heather Snead added nine points for the Lady Warriors (11-4), who led 22-13 at halftime and 35-18 after three quarters of play.
Tara George had nine points, while Beth Cook added six points for the Lady Yellow Jackets (6-7).
Moorefield will host Strasburg (Va.) at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Pocahontas County will entertain Moorefield on Wednesday.
EMS, Mannington split
The Elkins Middle School boys basketball team split a pair of games with Mannington Friday night at the EMS gymnasium.
The Gators won the varsity contest, 61-47.
Hunter Fittro had 22 points, while Micah Parrish added 17 points for Mannington.
Dalton Hamrick finsihed with 13 points, while Jarrette Zopp, and Curtis Bullock and Blake Loftis added eight points each for the Hornets (8-5).
Elkins (9-4) won the junior varsity contest, 37-11.
Lucas Masten and Read Schumacher had six points each for the Hornets.
Darin Smith had four points for Mannington.
Elkins will visit Green Bank at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
