Wesleyan women shine at Marietta meet

MARIETTA, Ohio – West Virginia Wesleyan’s women snagged five first- place finishes at Saturday’s Marietta College Invitational Indoor Track Meet.

Freshman Ali Crawford won multiple individual titles for the Lady Bobcats, taking the 55-hurdles and 55-meter dash in back-to-back races on the track. The alumnus of Brooke raced to an 8.54 time in the hurdles, and a 7.54 in the 55.

Other Wesleyan event winners included Ashli Knotts in the 800 (2:19.58), Gretchen Lantz in the long jump (17’6″) and freshman Rachel Hulett in the 5,000 (19:12.39). These three are also state natives; Knotts (Roane County), Lantz (South Harrison), and Hulett (Preston).

Wesleyan is back in action Feb. 1, returning to the same Marietta track.

Wesleyan swimmers fall

West Virginia Wesleyan’s swim teams competed Saturday in a triangular meet at California, Pa.

The Bobcat women fell to Lake Erie, 26-90, and to the host Vulcans, 12-98. The Bobcat men fell to Lake Erie, 101-158.

Max Garner was the lone multiple winner for Wesleyan in the individual races, taking both the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke races in 1:02.44 and 2:19.10, respectively. Thomas Bartleman produced a win in the sprints, taking the 50-free in 22.32.

Rachael Bailer was the top scorer foe the women, taking second place in a pair of races – the 100 breast (1:10.49), and the 500 free (5:45.61).

Wesleyan swims again this weekend, traveling to Fairmont State.
