D&E to host Battlers today in opener

The West Virginia Conference women’s tournament will get underway today with first-round games contested at the higher seed.

No. 4 Davis & Elkins (15-11, 14-8 WVIAC) will entertain No. 13 Alderson-Broaddus (8-17, 7-15) at 6:30 p.m. at the McDonnell Center.

No. 11 West Virginia Wesleyan (8-17, 7-15) will travel to No. 6 West Virginia State at 7 p.m.

In other first-round action, No. 15 Ohio Valley is at No. 2 West Liberty at 7:30 p.m., No. 14 Wheeling Jesuit visits No. 3 Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m., No. 12 Concord travels to No. 5 Seton Hill at 7 p.m., No. 10 Bluefield State visits No. 7 Shepherd at 7 p.m., and No. 8 Pitt Johnstown will entertain No. 9 Charleston at 7 p.m.

Quarterfinal action will be held at the Charleston Civic Center starting on Wednesday with top-seed Glenville State playing the No. 8-No. 9 winner, the No. 4-13 winner will play the No. 5-12 winner and the No. 3-14 winner will play the No. 6-11 winner.

The semifinals will be on Friday with the finals being held at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
