D&E too much for Concord
ATHENS?- Ashley Bowles finished with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Davis & Elkins past Concord 69-61 Monday in West Virginia Conference action.
Alicia Lentz followed with 12 points and four rebounds, while Amy Turner added 10 points and three assists for the Lady Senators (12-11, 11-8 WVIAC), who led 35-28 at halftime.
Stephanie Wagner fired in a team-high 18 points and five assists, while Katy Somerville added 14 points for Concord.
Davis & Elkins hosts Bluefield State at 2 p.m. Saturday for a West Virginia Conference matchup.
Alderson-Broaddus 52, West Virginia State 49
PHILIPPI?- Amanda Peoples finished with 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Alderson-Broaddus past West?Virginia State 52-49 Monday in WVIAC?action at Rex Pyles Arena.
Nautica Davis and Cayla Rhodes had 10 points each for the Lady Battlers (7-15, 6-12 WVIAC), who led 27-19 at halftime.
Kashauna Cook and Jasmine Blanton had 14 points each for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Alderson-Broaddus entertains Fairmont State at 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a WVIAC matchup.
Glenville State 97,
BUCKHANNON – Glenville State College showed why they are the top ranked women’s basketball team in the WVIAC Monday night, racing to a 97-72 road victory at West Virginia Wesleyan College. The high-octane Lady Pioneer offense fired up 81 shots, connecting on 33, including 16 three-pointers.
Glenville built a 24-point first half lead, and held on for a 49-29 lead at the half. The pressing Glenville defense created 17 Wesleyan turnovers in the first frame, while Glenville hit nine three-pointers before intermission. The Lady Pioneers continued to pepper the Rockefeller Center nets in the second half, building the lead to as high as 28 points before cruising down the stretch.
Ginny Mills led the GSC barrage, draining nine three-pointers en route to a game-high 31-point night. She was followed by Kenyona Simmons with 14, LaToya Hambrick with 12 and Kenyell Goodson with 10.
Atavia Blake scored 14 points to lead Wesleyan with Brittany Williams and Allie Browne adding 13 and 12 points respectively. Blake, Brittany Maxey, and Danesha Richardson all collected 10 rebounds as the Lady Bobcats held a 53-45 edge in total rebounding. Maxey also posted team highs with seven assists and four steals.
Glenville improves to 22-2 with the win, and 17-1 in the WVIAC. Wesleyan falls to 7-14 overall, 6-12 in the league. The Lady Bobcats are idle until Saturday’s road trip to Seton Hill.
