Davis & Elkins sweeps BSC; Lady Tigers fall

Jorden Lykes finished with 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Davis & Elkins past Bluefield State 79-71 Saturday in West Virginia Conference action at the McDonnell Center.

Beth Gribble followed with 16 points, while Page Turner added 11 points, 11 assists, three steals and three rebounds for the Lady Senators (12-11, 10-10 WVIAC), who led 42-40 at halftime.

Maquasia Ferebee followed with nine points and Amy Turner had eight points for Davis & Elkins.

Shae Mebane fired in a game-high 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Jenaya Aberenathy had 13 points for Bluefield State (12-11, 10-10).

Davis & Elkins will entertain rival Alderson-Broaddus at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a WVIAC matchup.

Men’s College Basketball

Davis & Elkins 88, Bluefield State 75

D’Quan Lynch recorded a triple-double to lead Davis & Elkins past Bluefield State 88-75 Saturday in WVIAC?action.

Lynch finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists for the Senators (8-16, 7-13 WVIAC), who led 43-34 at halftime.

Devin Miller followed with 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Shane Brown chipped in with 14 points for Davis & Elkins.

Igor Premasunac added 12 points for the Senators.

Treon Claiborne finished with 24 points to lead Bluefield State (3-21).

Davis & Elkins will host Alderson-Broaddus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a WVIAC matchup.

High School Boys Basketball

Moorefield 61, East Hardy 55

MOOREFIELD – Adam Snyder finished with a game-high 24 points and pulled down four rebounds to lead Moorefield past East Hardy 61-55 Saturday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Garret Keller followed with 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Lance Taylor chipped in with 10 points.

Dakota Vetter had 10 rebounds and five assists for the Yellow Jackets (9-10).

Shawn Skovron had 16 points, while Tyler Mongold chipped in with 13 points for the Cougars.

Levi Beck followed with 12 points for East Hardy.

Moorefield travels to Pocahontas County 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a PVC matchup.

East Hardy will host Tygarts Valley at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday1 for a Potomac Valley Conference tilt.

High School Girls Basketball

Pocahontas County 49, Charleston Catholic 45

CHARLESTON?- Tristin Day had 20 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Pocahontas County past 49-45 Saturday in non-conference action.

Michelle Murphy and Bobbie McNabb had seven points each for the Lady Warriors (15-5).

Samantha Fletcher had 18 points to lead the Lady Irish.

Pocahontas County will host the winner between Paw Paw/East Hardy at 7 p.m. Thursday in sectional tournament action.

Robert C. Byrd 60,

Elkins 24

CLARKSBURG – Sarah Barnksdale had 16 points to lead Robert C. Byrd past Elkins 60-24 Saturday in Big 10 Conference action.

Alicia Noble followed with 12 points and Corin Todd chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Eagles.

Meghan Dolly had eight points to lead Elkins (5-15).

Logan Dudley and Lindsay Silvester had four points each for the Lady Tigers.

Elkins will host Buckhannon-Upshur at 7 p.m. Tuesday in sectional action.
