EHS falls to MHS in opener

MARTINSBURG – The Elkins High School baseball team dropped a pair of games with Martinsburg Saturday afternoon in the Tigers’ season opener.

Elkins lost the first game 11-1 and dropped the second game, 4-3.

Colby Gainer took the loss for the Tigers in three innings of work giving up three earned runs in Game 1.

Jacob Wyatt had a hit to lead the Tigers.

Ryan Summerfield took the loss in the second game in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Clayton Collett had three hits to lead the Tigers in the second game.

Elkins is scheduled to travel to Fairmont Senior today at 4:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.

High School Softball

B-U drops pair

CHARLES TOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur High School softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday in non-conference action.

The Lady Bucs (2-3) lost the first game 6-2 to Musselman.

Megan Williams took the loss for B-U in six innings of work.

Claire Davis had two hits, while Lindsey Wagoner added one hit, two runs and scored a run for the Lady Bucs.

The Lady Bucs lost to Washington in their second game, 12-2.

Megan Williams and Wagoner had one hit each and scored a run for B-U.

Sarah Ling took the loss for B-U in one inning of work.

B-U swept a pair of games with Hampshire on Friday, winning the first game 15-9 and taking the nightcap, 10-0.

Brooklyn Waddell had five hits in Game 1, while Megan Williams had two hits in the second game.

B-U is slated to host Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. today.
