Elkins High School’s girls coach steps down

Elkins High School’s veteran girls basketball coach Nancy Lewis has resigned from her position after this past season.

Her resignation was approved at Monday night’s Randolph County Board of Education meeting.

“I’m going to miss coaching,” Lewis said. “I will definitely miss the kids, but there are some other things that I would like to be doing in the near future.”

Lewis was the head coach at Elkins High School for the past 26 seasons.

Before taking the reigns at Elkins, Lewis coached at Coalton for two seasons.

While at Elkins High School she has made it the state tournament eight times, with the last trip during the 2006-2007 season.

Her teams won 16 regional titles and 15 sectional championships.

Lewis led Coalton to two state tournament appearances and made it to the state finals in 1981, losing to Tyler County.

“Over the last 26 seasons I have had a wonderful group of girls,” Lewis said. “Next winter I will be able to go to games and watch Elkins play, It will be different not to be on the sidelines coaching.”
