Lady Mountain Lions secure 12th consecutive appearance
HAMBLETON – Stephanie Betler finished with a team-high 19 points and led three teammates in double figures to lead Tucker County past Pendleton County 64-43 Thursday in a Class A, Region II championship game.
The Lady Mountain Lions (19-5) advance to the state tournament for the 12th straight year.
“We’re excited to be heading to the state tournament,” Tucker County coach Jim Ambrose said. “I couldn’t be happier with our team’s effort tonight.”
Amber Evans added 15 points, while Savannah Ambrose had 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Lady Mountain Lions. Bekah Simmons chipped in with 11 points.
Tucker County held a slim 27-24 lead in a game that went back-and-forth in the first half.
The lead eventually grew to 48-32 after three quarters of play.
Hillary Ord finished with 17 points for the Lady Wildcats, who end the season 12-9.
“I thought the girls really played hard tonight,” Ambrose said. “In the third quarter, we really played well defensively.
“I’m excited to see four players in double figures. We had a lot of girls step up when we needed it, and I thought Savannah really played well for us offensively and defensively.”
The Class A state pairings will be announced today. The state tourney will begin on Wednesday.
