Toughman set for this weekend
The 34th annual West Virginia Toughman contest will make its return to Elkins High School on?Friday and Saturday at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
“We’re excited to be coming back to Elkins for the 11th straight time,” West Virginia Sports Promoter Jerry Thomas said. “Everyone in Elkins and the athletic department at Elkins High?School have been real friendly and helpful with getting this event put on.”
This year the event will feature more than 100 wrestlers and will be split up into the following weight classes: the heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, lightweight, women’s heavyweight, women’s light heavyweight and women’s lightweight.
There will also be a four-round pro-light heavyweight fight on Saturday night, which will feature Elkins native Kenny George (12-3-1) and Beckley native Dave Markert.
“I’m very excited to be finally getting back into the ring,”?George said. “I really missed fighting and looking forward to my opponent on Saturday.”
The gates for both events will open at 6:30 p.m. and the events will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Advance tickets are available at Rich Oil stores in Elkins and Philippi and the Speedway stores in?Buckhannon and Elkins. Also fans can buy advance tickets online at www.wvtoughman.com or at the gate Friday.
“We still have a lot of good seats still available for both nights,” Thomas said. “We have a lot of different options to buy tickets or you can get them on line.
“We’re expecting a good show.”
