4 area players selected for tilt

Four area players have been selected to participate in the North-South All-Star Football Classic.

Elkins’ Devan Collins, Tucker County’s Michael Adkins, Lewis County’s Wilson Harvey and East Hardy’s Josh Parker will play for the North squad in the game, which will take place June 15 at Charleston’s Laidley Field.

Collins, a 6-3, 260-pound tackle, was a Big 10 Conference first-team selection this season in helping lead the Tigers in a berth in the Class AAA playoffs.

Adkins, a 6-1, 230-pound guard/linebacker, was a first team Class A all-state member and the Potomac Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. The Mountain Lions advanced to the semifinals in the playoffs, falling to Madonna in double overtime.

Harvey, a 6-1, 240-pound guard/defensive end, was a Class AAA all-state first-teamer for the Minutemen, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. He also earned all-Big 10 Conference laurels.

Parker, a 6-2, 170-pound wide receiver-defensive back, set a school record and first-round playoff mark with eight catches for 232 yards and three touchdowns in a Class A playoff victory over Wheeling Central.

He was a first-team all-state pick and all-PVC selection.

The North team will be coached by St. Marys’ Jodi Mote. His assistants include Steve Barnhart (St. Marys), Sean Biser (Keyser) and John Bowers (Morgantown).

Midland Trail’s Joe Dean will coach the South team. He will be assisted by Rob Haley (Midland Trail), Jim Martin (Woodrow Wilson) and Lewis McClung (Greenbrier West).

The South team won last year’s contest 36-28 in overtime.
