Colts cruise past Braxton
SUTTON – Tyler Schiefelbein knocked in four runs as Philip Barbour claimed an 18-7 win over Braxton County in five innings on Saturday.
Schiefelbein also earned the win on the mound.
Chance Price added three hits, while Jacob Marsh homered and Doug Smith and Saige Cline drove in three runs each for the Colts (2-7).
Philip Barbour will host Braxton County at 4:30 p.m. today.
Tygarts Valley sweeps Valley
MILL?CREEK – Tygarts Valley swept Valley-Wetzel Saturday in prep baseball action.
The Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 6-3 deficit in the opener. Brandon Pritt had three RBIs to lead Tygarts Valley.
Pritt also earned the win, allowing four runs on six hits. He fanned nine and walked just one.
Brandon Stoneking took the loss for the Lumberjacks, allowing six runs on just two hits in six innings. Only one run was earned as the visitors were plagued by six errors.
Cody Grimmett drove in three runs as the Bulldogs rolled to a 15-2 win in the nightcap.
The game ended in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
Owen Arbogast and Timmy Sparks combined on a two hitter to lead the Bulldogs.
Andrew Torres, Lanham and Sparks added two RBIs each.
Albert McGuane took the loss for Valley, allowing 15 runs on nine hits in three innings. He struck out two and walked three.
Pendleton 5, Pocahontas 1
FRANKLIN – Andrew Thompson had three hits and three RBIs to lead Pendleton County past Pocahontas County 5-1 Saturday in Potomac Valley Conference action.
Logan Cooper notched the win for Pendleton County in four innings of work. He gave up two hits and struck out eight.
Brandon Hammons took the loss for the Warriors in six innings of work. He gave up 10 hits and struck out five.
Cary Robertson and Braxton Rider had two hits each for Pocahontas County.
The Warriors will travel to Richwood at 7 p.m. today.
Pendleton County (8-5, 7-1 PVC) will visit Shenandoah Valley Academy at 7 p.m. today.
Elkins wins two games
Elkins captured a pair of wins against Philip Barbour and Tucker County on Saturday.
The Tigers defeated the Colts 7-2 as Michaela Lewis-Lambert struck out 14 batters. She allowed just one hit and walked three.
Amy Fincham, Madison Collett, Kari Rudiger and Lewis-Lambert all had two hits for Elkins. Collett also had an RBI double and Taylor Pingley a two-run double.
Faith Cline had the lone hit for the Colts, while Haelli Killen took the loss on the mound.
Collett had a two-run double as Elkins defeated Tucker County 9-1 in five innings in the nightcap.
Jordan Hart and Hailey Collins added two hits and two RBIs each, while Amelia Preusch had a triple.
Bekah Simmons took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
Lewis-Lambert worked the first three innings to earn the win. She struck eight and allowed no hits. Alyssa Harper finished in relief, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two.
Shannon Whitehair and Sharee Thomas had the lone hits for Tucker County.
Elkins will travel to Liberty at 5 p.m. today.
B-U splits pair
BUCKHANNON – Buckhannon-Upshur split a pair of games Saturday in prep softball action.
The Bucs earned a 5-4 Big 10 Conference win over Robert C. Byrd as Megan Williams knocked in a pair of runs. Brooklyn Waddell added three hits.
Williams also earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out six.
B-U lost a 1-0 decision to Morgantown in its second game as Tara Hanson struck out 12 and allowed just five hits.
Julie Tenney had two hits to pace the Bucs.
B-U (9-9, 3-2 Big 10) will travel to North Marion at 5 p.m. today for a league contest.
