Cougars pick up two victories

East Hardy picked up a pair of wins against South Harrison and Notre Dame on Saturday.

The Cougars cruised past the Hawks 14-2 in five innings and claimed a 13-7 victory over the Irish.

Michael Miller knocked in three runs, while Korey Foltz, Shawn Skovron, Cole Collier and Wyatt Basye added two RBIs each against South Harrison. Skovron also homered.

Justin Basye went all five innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two and walking four.

Gaige Evans took the loss, giving up three run on seven hits in two innings.

Skovron, Justin Basye and Wyatt Basye all had homers in the Cougars’ win over Notre Dame. Justin Basye finished with four RBIs and Skovron tallied three.

Tyler Mongold was the winning pitcher. He went six innings, allowing six run on five hits, striking out four and walking seven.

D.J. Murphy knocked in a pair of runs for the Irish, while Chris Petrucci took the loss on the mound, surrendering seven runs on six hits in four innings.

East Hardy (16-8) will host Petersburg at 7 p.m. today.

Moorefield splits games

Moorefield gained a split on Saturday, falling to Notre Dame 4-3 and claiming a 13-3 win over South Harrison in six innings.

Spencer Harlow earned the win for the Irish over the Yellow Jackets, giving up three runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Jared Kite took the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out three and walking three.

DeShawn Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead Moorefield at the plate.

Mikey Pultz and Dakota Vetter each had two RBIs to lead the Yellow Jackets over the Hawks.

Austin Williams took the win, allowing three runs on six hits, fanning six and not issuing a walk.

Justin Fridley had a pair of hits in a losing effort for South Harrison.

Moorefield (18-6) will entertain Allegany (Md.) Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference game.
