EHS girls capture Big 10 tennis title
CLARKSBURG – Kelli and Kayla Carr’s win in No. 1 doubles gave Elkins the Big 10 Conference tennis title on Saturday.
The 9-8 (12-10 tiebreaker) victory was enough to allow the Tigers to slip past Bridgeport, 18-17.
Bradley and Caitlin Gutta also won in No. 3 doubles for Elkins over Philip Barbour’s Madie Sandridge-Kaylee Freeman, 8-6.
The Elkins boys fell just short of taking the team title. The Tigers tied with Lincoln in the final point tally but the Cougars held a 3-2 edge in champions to win the crown.
The teams of Jacob Schoonover-Jonathan Gainer, Ryan Henson-Linkoln Barger and Sean Cain-Tommy Cain all placed second.
