Minutemaids get past Indians in Big 10 tilt

WESTON – Tori Shea Riley twirled a three-hitter as Lewis County claimed a 2-1 win over Bridgeport Thursday in Big 10 Conference action.

Riley struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk for the Minutemaids, who broke open a 1-1 deadlock in the fourth inning when Torrie Riffle drew a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and trotted home on an RBI?single from Shelby Murphy.

Danielle Dennson took the loss for the Indians, allowing five hits and striking out five.

Lewis County will host Fairmont Senior on Monday for a Big 10 Conference matchup.

Musselman 9, East Hardy 8

INWOOD – East Hardy lost a 9-8 decision to Class AAA, No. 7 Musselman on Thursday.

Marilyn Cassell had a three-run homer to lead the Lady Cougars (12-3). Rayann Foltz and Jade Foltz added two hits each.

Jodie Funkhouser took the loss, allowing 11 hits in six innings.

Brittany Ingram earned the win for the hosts.

East Hardy will host Musselman at 7 p.m. Monday.

Pendleton 20, Tygarts Valley 12

FRANKLIN?- Danielle Gray had three hits, including a pair of triples, as Pendleton County outslugged Tygarts Valley 20-12 Thursday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Nikita Kimble and Brittany Huffman both saw time on the mound for the Wildcats.

Charity Lower went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for the Bulldogs, while Shaunna Taylor added two hits, including a homer and double, Paige Pritt an inside-the-park homer and Danielle Johnson two hits and two runs scored.

Lower took the loss on the mound in five innings of work.

Tygarts Valley will travel to South Harrison on Monday.

Pendleton County will visit Moorefield today for a PVC contest.

Hundred ……….. 1

HUNDRED – Timmy Sparks knocked in six runs to lead Tygarts Valley past Hundred 17-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Dalton Vandevender added three RBIs and Cody Grimmett two RBIs for the Bulldogs, who led 10-1 after two innings.

Ryan Hoffman earned the win, allowing two hits and fanning five in going all five innings.

Robert Morris took the loss in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Tygarts Valley will entertain Valley-Wetzel at noon Saturday for a doubleheader.

Prep tennis

Elkins sweeps North

Elkins swept North Marion Thursday in Big 10 Conference tennis action at Davis &?Elkins College.

Both squads won by scores of 7-0.

Winning in singles for the Tiger boys were Jonathan Gainer, Jacob Schoonover, Taylor Stump and Ryan Henson.

Gainer and Schoonover, Henson-Linkoln Barger and Sean Cain-Tommy Cain won in doubles.

EHS girls winners were Kelli Carr, Kayla Carr, Taylor Epperson and Taylor Gadd in singles.

Doubles winners included the teams of Kelli Carr-Kayla Carr, Epperson-Kayla Gainer and Bradley Gutta-Caitlin Gutta.

Elkins will travel to Lewis County at 4 p.m. today.

Middle school softball

EMS rolls

FAIRMONT – Korri Evans belted two home runs to lead Elkins Middle past East Fairmont 12-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Lauren Wilmoth earned the win, striking out eight and walking two.

Haley Collett and Evans both went 3-for-4. Collett also had a triple. Alyssa Thompson added two hits and Sierra Poling was 1-for-1.

Brooklyn Nuzum took the loss for East Fairmont and also had a hit.

Elkins will host Buckhannon-Upshur at 6 p.m. Monday.
