North Marion sweeps Tigers

Elkins dropped a doubleheader to North Marion Thursday in Big 10 Conference softball action at the EMS field.

After losing the opening game 7-2, the Tigers built a 4-0 lead in the nightcap before the Huskies rallied, eventually earning the win on Amanda Sigley’s game-winning single in the top of the seventh inning.

Amy Fincham, Madison Collett and Michaela Lewis-Lambert each had two hits to lead Elkins. Hailey Collins and Kelsi Trippett added RBI singles.

Lewis-Lambert took the loss, allowing three hits and fanning six.

Chelsi Lotocha earned the win.

Lewis-Lambert struck out 13 batters and allowed five hits over six innings in the Tigers’ setback in the opener.

Freshman Alyssa Harper worked the seventh.

Collins had a two-run single to account for both Elkins runs in the lidlifter.

Taylor Wells went 3-for-4 with a double and Paige Efaw 2-for-4 with a double for the Huskies.

Danielle Fluharty was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings.

“We’ve got to cut down on the mistakes,” Elkins coach Corrine Palmer said. “They seemed to come at the wrong times tonight and really cost us.

“I told the girls that the postseason is not that far away and we need to start winning some games to get some momentum going.”

Elkins (3-8) will play a pair of contests on Saturday, hosting Philip Barbour at 5 p.m. and Tucker County at 7 p.m.

North Marion will entertain Fairmont Senior at 5 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference contest.
